HST Observations of Jets

Hsien Shang, with Jennifer Wiseman (JHU) and other collaborators, had two data sets from Cycle 10 HST observations on HH 111 and L1551 in Fall 2002. They were trying to extract varieties of information from basic jet signatures in images to kinematics through a large dynamic range. Most importantly, they aim to extract rotation signatures through multiple slit positions from multi-slit positions. The data sets have been reduced and analyzed, but the signal to noise ratios have been quite low. Further analyses of the data are underway. Independently, Shang and NTU undergrad assistant Chun-Fan Liu have been attempting further analyses with HST archival data on the red forbidden lines with HH30 and HH111 with hope of comparisons with theoretical predictions.
